Hummus is a tasty, healthy food made of chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans) that originated in the Middle East.
It is easy to make and easy to customize to your own taste.
Here is my basic recipe.
Mark’s simple hummus recipe
1 can (15oz) of chickpeas (garbanzo beans) drained
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
Place the ingredients in a blender and blend.
Serve as a dip or spread.
Note you may need to add additional liquid (vinegar, lemon juice or water) if a smoother more liquid consistency is desired or server more chunky.
Here are some ways to customize hummus to your taste:
Add more or less vinegar, lemon juice, olive oil to taste.
Add garlic, salt.
Add tahini or sesame seeds. Tahini is sesame paste.
Add other types of beans like red kidney beans or white kidney beans (cannellini).
Use fresh chickpeas.
Blend well and use as a dip for chips.
Spread hummus on a rice cake and top with a slice of avocado.
